Letter from Our Executive Director
WE ARE HERE…
We are here to listen . . . not to work miracles.
We are here to help people discover what they are feeling . . . not to make feelings go away.
We are here to help people identify their options . . . not to decide for them what they should do.
We are here to discuss steps with people . . . not to take steps for them.
We are here to help people discover their own strengths . . . not to rescue them and leave them still vulnerable.
We are here to help people discover they can help themselves . . . not to take responsibility for them.
We are here to help people learn to choose . . . not to make it unnecessary to them to make difficult choices.
We are here to provide support for change.

The above poem sums up House of Charity’s commitment to help individuals meet their basic human needs while reducing barriers to their long-term self-sufficiency. We are here to create an environment of hope for those who may be hopeless and support for those with little or no support. We are here providing safe housing, meals and services to thousands of individuals within our community.
We are here because of the steadfast commitment of our community partners, including government, foundation, and corporate funders and individual donors. Through these economic times, we are here because of your support. Donors are our bedrock; without you we would not be able to do as much as we do and our clients’ quality of life would suffer. The same is true of our volunteers — those who come to the building to serve meals, clean chairs and tables, paint, plant, teach, assist, and even just sit and talk to our clients and our meal guests. Without YOU, our clients’ quality of life would be lowered! The confidence our referral sources and business partners have in us would not be possible without you, our donors and volunteers
What makes the work we do at House of Charity possible is all of us working together, giving what we can, doing what we are able, in service to homeless persons in our community.
