Wednesdays from 10am-1pm

In November of 2019, Shelf of Hope food shelf (previously housed at Gethsemane Episcopal Church) moved into our House of Charity Food Centre.

On average, about 100 customers browse to food options and head home with fresh and healthy food to create in their own homes for their families.

Shelf of Hope allows us to reach yet another demographic of those in need in our neighborhood.

Weekly orders from the Food Group and Second Harvest allow us to ensure that the food our customers take home is fresh and high quality.

Options like milk, fresh fruits and vegetables, and frozen meats are frequently offered.

We know that there is often an assumption that food shelves and pantries give away the junk food and canned goods that people want cleared our of their home. But we’re here to tell you that isn’t true!

Just as healthy and complete meals are important for our Food Centre public lunches, they are equally important for our food shelf customers.

How Can I Help?

Support the food shelf with donations!

Supporting the food shelf financially allows us to order healthy foods every week.

Donate here.

Give supplies!

Any donation of food is also welcome. Also food must be fresh, cooled(if necessary) and unopened for us to accept them. We also like to have a stash of toys and clothing items for the families that come through. If you’re clearing out your toy bin or closet, send stuff over!

Every Wednesday, the food has to be moved from its storage to the tables and shelves that allow our food shelf customers to select the items they want. We need a few volunteers to join us from 10am-1pm to help move food and keep the food shelf running smoothly while it’s open.

You can sign up to serve in the food shelf here.
